THE ORTHOMOLECULAR TREATMENT OF SCHIZOPHRENIA

Schizophrenia is associated with specific nutrient deficits and physiological imbalances (see illustration below). There are primary and secondary imbalances in schizophrenia and the optimal goal is to correct all these imbalances.  We assess schizophrenic patients using lab tests and target our treatment accordingly.  After obtaining detailed histories and lab results, individualized treatment involves nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals, amino acids, botanicals, and dietary changes.  A comprehensive plan is customized for each individual.

To read further on how these nutrient and physiological imbalances are treated, please read my  Schizophrenia Review Article published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine 2008, 23(1): 21-28 and 23(2): 95-105 (posted in our Articles & Books web page).

Our orthomolecular (nutrient-correcting) protocol has shown a track record of consistent positive response in a wide spectrum of mental health conditions. This includes the majority of First-Episode Schizophrenia (FES) clients that we have treated. We are currently recruiting FES patients for 6 month case studies to determine the level of effectiveness of our advanced nutrient-based orthomolecular treatment. In this First-Episode Schizophrenia Case Study Series we are targeting cases 18-30 years old that have been sick less than 18 months.

Once treatment has begun, one of the early signs I note in good responders is that they smile and soon become involved and motivated to participate in family and life. Some comments from families and patients are “the difference is like night and day”, “we’ve got our daughter back” and “I feel like a new person”.
